Last month, it was reported that Newcastle United would go back in for Jetro Willems should he prove his fitness at Frankfurt before the new year.
A few weeks on, he’s now sharing clips of him back in full training with the Bundesliga side – a positive sign for us, especially when you see how sharp he looks in the footage!
Here’s a few videos he’s shared of him back in action for the first time since January, seeing him recreate that stunning goal at Anfield and skin a few of his Frankfurt teammates!
This comes a few days after the Shields Gazette revealed that we have reignited our interest in the Dutchman and are now ‘exploring’ the possibility of striking a cut-price deal with Frankfurt.
Given he’s out of contract next summer and doesn’t appear to be in their long-term plans, a cheap move back to Tyneside could suit us down to the ground, making him a low risk signing who can give us another option in an area of the field we lack depth in.
Here’s a reminder of what Willems told NUFC TV back in August when asked if he’d like to return:
“Of course, of course.
“It’s sad that it ended like that.
“I feel like I’m not done yet. We will see.
“It would be great to be back – and show them at St James’s.”
Hopefully he can continue to look sharp in training and play in a few competitive games before the year is out to prove his fitness ahead of the January transfer window.
