Florian Lejeune at it again as he stops ex-NUFC sensation from moving top of La Liga

Florian Lejeune continues to impress out in Spain, with his latest performance helping a 10-man Alaves keep out surprise title contenders Real Sociedad last night.

The Newcastle United loanee was the top-rated defender in their 2-1 win at Real Madrid the weekend before last and also kept Lionel Messi quiet in a draw with Barcelona last month.

This time out, he came up against Mikel Merino’s high-flying Real Sociedad – a side that would’ve leapfrogged Atletico Madrid and gone top of the table with a win.

Former Mag Merino is now a regular in the Spanish national side and one of the most highly-rated midfielder in La Liga, with his new contract with La Real said to include a whopping €70m release clause!

Despite having a man sent off with half an hour remaining, Lejeune’s Alaves held on to earn a draw that sends them just one point behind the European places.

Lejeune has already become a big favourite within their fanbase and has received praise from several Spanish pundits, with him helping them to three clean sheets, a shock win over Real Madrid and draws against Barcelona, Valencia and Real Sociedad in his last seven appearances.

They’ll want to sign him permanently at this rate, however he must surely be back in Steve Bruce’s thoughts after proving his fitness and showing his class in La Liga.

Here’s highlights of last night’s game, which features a few clips of ex-Mag Joselu going close for the home side!
