Football fans tell talkSPORT why NUFC is the club they ‘hate’ most – Laughable comments

Toon fans have been blasted by supporters across the country in a recent talkSPORT post which asked followers to comment with the club they ‘hate’ most that isn’t their own team’s rival.

Looking at the replies, Newcastle United come up more than any other club – and some of the reasons behind fellow football fans disliking us are laughable to say the least.

Pundits have laid into our fanbase, especially over the last few years, for apparently demanding silverware and having a sense of entitlement over our failures, as we supposedly believe ourselves to be a massive club that deserves success.

This sentiment was echoed by Mark Lawrenson recently, who questioned whether Toon fans think we should be winning the Champions League. Gabby Agbonlahor, ironically on talkSPORT itself, also made puzzling comments when claimed Newcastle fans expect the likes of Isaac Hayden to perform like Man City legend David Silva.

Here are a selection of replies to talksSPORT’s tweet below, which sees fans explain why we are their most hated club:

Newcastle!! They think they are entitled to silverware because they have a large following, nothing more. Somehow to them it seems to render them ‘automatic should be’s’ for the champions league every year if you listen to their fans harp on.

Newcastle. I’ve never really understood why, but I love to see them lose.

Newcastle..supporters are unrealistic but I do feel sorry in one way. I went there when they had 13k in under Ardiles, so they are not as loyal as they portray..

Newcastle. They think they’re bigger than what they are. No one thinks they’re a big club outside Newcastle

Have to agree with replies. Newcastle lot think they’re entitled to everything

Newcastle. When was the last time they won a domestic trophy? Go on enlighten me. In my lifetime, they’ve yo-yo’d in an out of the top flight. Are Southampton a big club? No, have they won trophies more recently? Yes and been in the top flight just as much if not more.

Newcastle United. Tiny club, who for some reason think they are big.

Newcastle. Not a big club. Just have a large fan base and haven’t won anything in 2 generations.

NUFC. The constant moaning and refusal to accept your reality as a decent but standard club. Great teams have a habit of winning trophies.

A personal favourite of mine – “I’ve never really understood why, but I love to see them lose.”

Surprisingly, a Villa fan actually stuck up for us when he noticed the amount of abuse we were receiving in the thread. The reasonable response noted how we have to deal with being owned by Mike Ashley for 13 years, a feat that I doubt other supporters could endure for no longer than a couple of seasons!

Surprised a few in the comments are saying Newcastle though.

Surely a club where the fans have to deal with Mike Ashley shouldn’t be hated...

I personally find it hilarious that other clubs seem to hate us for no real reason other than the ones perpetrated by the pundits within the media.

As long as the Toon Army – who have undoubtedly proven over the years to have the loyalist fans in the country – stick together, then that is all that bothers me.
