Jetro Willems has confirmed he is still pursuing a permanent move to Newcastle United.
The former loan star is back in the Bundesliga with Frankfurt, but has been heavily linked with a return to St James’ Park in recent weeks, with this agent recently insisting that he’s ‘fully fit’ and eager to be back on Tyneside.
Now, Willems has himself revealed his wish to be back in England and Newcastle United in particular, praising the club’s history, the stadium and atmosphere – as well as the “nice” Geordie accent!
Here’s what the 26-year-old has told Dutch outlet RTL Nieuws:
“It’s a wonderful club, in terms of history, stadium.
“The Geordies, that accent is nice.
“I hope to be able to go to England.
“That suits me.”
“The atmosphere in England is wonderful.”
This comes after The Chronicle reported earlier this week that he’d REJECTED a contract extension at Frankfurt – something that was merely offered to protect his value now he’s at risk of leaving on a free next summer.
So, we either take a risk on him in January and bring him home, or wait to see if he can prove his fitness in 2021 before signing him on a Bosman?
Either way, I really do hope we see the Dutch international back in a black and white shirt at some point in the not too distant future.

I’d love to see him back at NUFC
He was excellent for us before that horrible injury.
Him and Lewis would be great for LB and Lewis would definitely develop training and learning from Jetro imo.
