Everton now set to hijack Newcastle’s January interest in Ligue 1 goal-machine?

Last month, both The Chronicle and The Athletic revealed that Ligue 1 striker Boulaye Dia was a January target of ours after impressing Newcastle United scouts.

The 24-year-old has been in brilliant form this season, scoring 8 goals in 12 appearances for Stade de Reims – making him the second top scorer in France behind only PSG’s Kylian Mbappe.

That said, it seems we may have competition for his signature, with Everton now said to be stepping up their interest in the Senegalese international.

This comes from Le10 Sport, who claim the Toffees have ‘recently positioned themselves’ at the front of the queue, with Carlo Ancelotti looking to bring in some competition for current talisman Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The same report states that Reims will reluctantly sell at the right price, and it’s said that an offer around €12-15m would be enough to see them cash in.

It remains to be seen how much money Steve Bruce will be given to spend next month, however the signing of another striker should be high on our wanted list.

Gayle may be fit again, but his injury record suggests he is not the most reliable of back-up option should Wilson get injured – not to mention the fact we are now playing two up top.

Here’s a clip of the in-form striker in action:
