Jetro Willems names the club who “could be” an option if NUFC return collapses

Jetro Willems has hinted that Ajax “could be” a potential destination for him this winter should a return to Newcastle United fail to materialise.

The 26-year-old confirmed last week that he was keen to return to England and re-sign at St James’ Park, describing us as a “wonderful club”.

His agent has also suggested that there’s deal to be done between Newcastle and Frankfurt should we wish to bring him back next month, however it seems the Dutch international is also eyeing a potential return to his homeland.

Here’s what the Dutchman told RTL Nieuws when asked about a potential January move:

“Ajax?

Could be…”

“Then I would no longer be able to live here (Rotterdam) and come home to my parents, but it is a nice club.

“Just like Feyenoord and PSV, they are the most beautiful clubs in the Netherlands.”

Although he started at Sparta Rotterdam, Willems made a name for himself in European football with PSV, enjoying six successful season with the Eredivisie giants.

Because of that, a move to their arch rivals Ajax would be a controversial one amongst PSV fans who appear to still adore him!

Hopefully we pursue a permanent deal in the new year and avoid any bidding war – although it wouldn’t surprise me if plenty clubs were interested, with him likely to be available on the cheap now his contract is up at the end of the season.
