Newcastle ‘approach’ club over the January signing of Wilmar Barrios – Report

According to reports in Colombia, Newcastle United have approached Zenit St. Petersburg over a potential January move for Wilmar Barrios.

This comes from Primer Tiempo, who claim that ourselves, Besiktas, AC Milan and Tottenham have all been showing interest in the tough-tackling South American.

It’s not the first time we’ve been linked with a move for the Colombian midfielder either, with Win Sports journalist Diego Rueda stating in August that he was “certain” we’d held talks with the 27-year-old.

A few months on, it’s reported in his homeland that he’s eager to seal a move to the Premier League after 18 months in Russia.

Although this may have to be taken with a pinch of salt until a more reputable source confirms our alleged interest, it’s an intriguing link when we we’re said to be in the market for a high-energy holding midfielder and have been linked on a few occasions over the past six months.
