According to talkSPORT, Newcastle United will NOT be signing Fikayo Tomori on loan next month.
Last week it was suggested that Chelsea preferred not to send him to a Premier League rival for the second half of the season, and it seems that may be the case, with the defender now set to join Ligue 1 side Rennes.
This comes from talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, who claims the England international almost joined the French side over the summer as part of a deal that saw Edouard Mendy arrive at Stamford Bridge.
With Steve Bruce clearly eager to sign another centre-back and likely to be restricted to loans, we’d been strongly linked with a move to bring Tomori to Tyneside.
Despite a breakthrough season across 2019/20, he’s struggled for game time under Frank Lampard this term, with the signing of 36-year-old Brazilian Thiago Silva seeing him slip down the pecking order.
A January loan move looked almost certain as a result, however it talkSPORT reckon ourselves, West Ham and Leeds will all lose out to the Ligue 1 side.
