Mark Lawrenson has some good news for Steve Bruce ahead of Newcastle vs Fulham

Mark Lawrenson is predicting a good weekend for Newcastle United fans, backing us to beat Fulham 2-0 at St James’ Park on Saturday night.

The BBC pundit feels Fulham were still ‘hanging on’ in draws against Liverpool and Brighton over the past week and reckons we’ll react after ‘falling apart’ at Leeds on Wednesday.

He also points out our good home record against teams outside the ‘big six’ so far this season, with us beating Burnley, Everton and West Brom since Brighton battered us 0-3.

Here’s what he’s had to say:

Fulham have picked up a couple of decent draws in the past few days, against Liverpool then Brighton, but they were hanging on in both games.

Newcastle fell apart at the end against Leeds in midweek but they are at home this time and they will expect to win this game – their recent record at St James’ Park against teams below them in the table is pretty good.

Although back-to-back wins over Palace and West Brom had us looking up when we arrived at Leeds, the 5-2 battering was a reality check – and comes at a time were those below us are starting to pick up points.

Fulham have looked far less of a soft touch in recent weeks and will arrive on Tyneside with far more belief after a big win at Leicester and two decent draws in their last four games.

With Parker’s side picking up, Burnley moving out of the relegation zone via surprise results against Everton, Arsenal and Villa, and big Sam arriving at West Brom, this feels like a big game for us – especially when we have Man City, Liverpool and Leicester up next.

Win and we’ll go eight clear of the Cottagers, but lose and we’ll be sucked right into the mix.
