Steve Bruce admits he would have “loved” to work with former Mag Aleksandar Mitrovic at Newcastle United – suggesting he’d never have sold the striker had he been in charge a few years earlier.
The Serbian is all set to return to St James’ Park this weekend when Fulham come to town, and it seems Bruce is a big fan.
Here’s what he’s had to say about the ex-NUFC striker, explaining why he believes the big man was a ‘cult hero’ on Tyneside:
“I would’ve loved the opportunity to work with him.
“He was great up here, wasn’t he?
“You can understand why he was a little bit of a cult hero.
He’s different. He epitomises what the North East is all about: big, tough, strong, fiercely competitive with a bit of an edge.”
Although Mitrovic did split opinion on Tyneside, I’m sure many would love to see him back in a black and white shirt and up top alongside Callum Wilson.
That said, he’s had a difficult start to the season, scoring just twice and playing just 16 minutes of football across Fulham’s last four games.
A few years on from his big money move down south, let’s hope the 26-year-old doesn’t come back to haunt us on Saturday night!
