According to reports in Germany, Newcastle are one of three Premier League clubs showing interest in Schalke talent Rabbi Matondo.
This comes from BILD, who claim that ourselves, Crystal Palace and Brighton are all eyeing a January move for the 20-year-old attacker who looks set to leave the Bundesliga side this month.
The report states that the Welsh international is available to sign until the end of the season, with one unnamed English club said to have submitted a loan bid WITHOUT an option to buy.
Matondo – a pacey wide man who can also play as a second striker – has featured just three times so far this season for a struggling Schalke side.
He has two goals in 30 Bundesliga appearances and is a former Manchester City U-23, with his impressive form in their second string earning him an £8m move to Germany this time last year.
This comes 12 months on from our under-the-radar loan deal for Schalke’s Nabil Bentaleb – not that he went on to impress many during his temporary stint on Tyneside!
One to watch or an overseas rumour that’s wide of the mark? Time will tell, but here’s him in action:
