Newcastle ‘interested’ in winger who can leave for much less than £17m release clause – Report

According to reports in South America, Newcastle are one of three clubs showing interest in signing Independiente star Alan Velasco.

This comes from Argentine outlet El Intransigente, who claim ourselves, Serie A side Parma and Mexican giants Club America are all keen on the winger – who can play down the left or right-hand side.

The 18-year-old’s current contract is believed to include a £17m release clause, however the report states that he could leave for a significantly lower fee, with Independiente currently in the middle of a ‘financial crisis’ and needing to sell their star men in order to survive.

Although we are relatively well stocked in wide areas, it is worth noting that our alleged interest in Velasco dates back to last summer via Foot Mercato.

Velasco has bagged three goals and three assists so far this season and has represented Argentina at U-17 level.

Here’s a few clips of him in action, with it not taking long for someone to make a premature “welcome to Newcastle United” compilation on Youtube!
