NUFC target ‘likely’ to join Leeds but deal ‘agreed in principle’ for England U-21 star – Reports

A few updates have arrived today on our pursuit of Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori and Man Utd’s Brandon Williams – the duo linked with January loan moves to St James’ Park.

Starting with some potential good news, the Shields Gazette report that we’ve “agreed the framework of a deal”, in principle, to sign England U-21 left-back Brandon Williams.

Bruce is believed to be a big admirer of the 20-year-old, who has struggled for game time at Old Trafford since Alex Telles arrived from Porto.

Liam Kennedy insists that he is a player in-demand with a host of clubs also interested – one being Southampton – however it’s believed we are now at the ‘top of the list’ to have him until the end of the season.

Elsewhere, BBC Sport claim that Fikayo Tomori’s “likely destination” this month is now Leeds United.

The Chronicle reported just a few days ago that the 23-year-old defender was set to be offered our way on loan and a a player Bruce ‘likes’, however it seems Marcelo Bielsa is at the front of the queue for the out of favour Chelsea centre-back.

Considering the number of injuries Leeds have in central defence and their free-flowing style of football, it would be no surprise if both Frank Lampard and Tomori himself opted for Leeds, with some questioning if we still need a centre-back following Clark and Schar’s return from injury.

As for Williams, he looks a top prospect who was the best player on the pitch by a country mile when I saw our U-23’s play Man Utd’s at St James’ Park last season.

His arrival would highlight Jamal Lewis’ struggles and cast doubt over Jetro Willems’ potential return, but he’s a very talented player who’s good going forward, tenacious and able to play down either flank.
