It’s official, Rolando Aarons is no longer a Newcastle United player after completing a permanent move to Huddersfield on Thursday night.
After almost eight years at St James’ Park, he’ll now spend the next few seasons with the Terriers – who’ve confirmed he’s signed an initial deal until 2023, which includes an option of a further year’s extension.
Here’s their announcement video by the Championship side, followed by Rolando’s emotional goodbye message to Newcastle United:
Aarons has then had this to say on Twitter in a heartfelt message to the club and fans:
“I’d like to thank @NUFC for giving me the opportunity to start my career as a footballer. It was always special stepping onto the pitch playing in front of 52,000 of the best fans I’ve ever seen…
“The club will always hold a special place in my heart and I wish all the fans and the club the very best going forward. Once a geordie…….”
A brilliant message from a player who arrived on the scene with huge promise, but sadly faded away via a mixture of bad injuries and inconsistency.
At 25, he needed a move away and a new home to get his senior career on track – and the chance to play week in, week out in the second tier will give him a brilliant platform to build on.
All the best, Rolando!
