Newcastle United have announced the signing of Jay Turner-Cooke – a young midfielder who arrives from North-East neighbours Sunderland.
The 17-year-old arrives from the Mackems’ U-23 set up and looks set to go straight into our Academy.
In an official statement below, the club also confirm that Turner-Cooke has signed a two and a half year deal at Little Benton, keeping him on Tyneside until 2023:
Newcastle United have completed the signing of young attacking midfielder Jay Turner-Cooke.
The 17-year-old joins the club’s Academy from Sunderland, where he previously featured for the Black Cats’ Under-18 and Under-23 sides.
Turner-Cooke has signed a deal at Little Benton until summer 2023.
The attacking midfielder turned 17 shortly after Christmas, but had recently been promoted to Sunderland’s second string (U-23’s) after standing out at U-18 level.
Although predominantly a midfielder, Turner-Cooke has appeared once on the left wing and once as a striker during his time on Wearside.
We may see Chelsea poach a few local talents from Newcastle City juniors in years to come, but it’s good to see we are cherry picking a few of Sunderland’s talents.
