Steve Bruce says 2 loan signings “might materialise” & hints at new deals for NUFC trio

He’s not expecting many clubs to be busy in the transfer market this month, but Steve Bruce believes Newcastle have a couple of loan deals in mind that “might materialise”.

The NUFC boss has also offered a promising update on the contract front, saying Ciaran Clark is one of THREE Newcastle players who will enter talks over new deals.

This is a pressing matter at the club, with the likes of Schar, Fernandez, Clark, Yedlin and Carroll all free to leave at the end of the season if no extensions are offered their way.

Here’s what Bruce has had to say on both matters, starting with his comments on the transfer front:

“We’ve got one or two things which might materialise.

“But judging by people I’ve been speaking to, I can’t see much being done at any club.

“We’ll keep looking and bashing away at the loan market.”

“Last year, we used the loan market particularly well.

It’s an area we’ll look at and see.”

After sounding slightly pessimistic on the transfer front after last weekend’s 1-2 defeat to Leicester, his comments today offer a slither of hope that something may be in the pipeline. Who knows – perhaps there’s been a bit of progress over the past few days?

Bruce then offered a positive update on potential new deals for our soon-to-be out of contract stars (via The Chronicle’s Ciaran Kelly):

“We’re talking to Ciaran [Clark],”

“There’s one or two or three that we will be looking at and having discussions about.

“Certainly, Ciaran’s done very well for me so we hope there’s positive news in that respect.”

As uninspiring as it may seem to some, a few loan signings that improve our starting 11 and new deals for the likes of Clark, Fernandez and Co. would make for a solid January.

All the above is easier said than done when Lee Charnley is involved, however!
