The £1.5m deal NUFC should hijack as Dutch international closes in on Premier League exit

Newcastle have been credited with interest in a whole host of Man Utd players this month, with Brandom Williams, Phil Jones, Jesse Lingard and Marcos Rojo all linked.

One name who hasn’t been mentioned so far is Timothy Fosu-Mensah – yet he should be a no-brainer for both Steve Bruce and Mike Ashley if the latest reports are anything to go by.

MEN and Talksport both claim that he’s rejected a new deal at Old Trafford and could be set to join Bayer Leverkusen for just £1.5m.

I know we’re said to be in the loan market only this month, but this feels like an absolute bargain we should be all over for a several reasons.

The big one is his versatility, with him able to play in several of the positions we seem keen to strengthen having operated at right-back, left-back, centre-back and centre midfield.

He’s also 23 – a good age that fits into our preferred buying policy – yet has racked up 50 appearances at Premier League level (many of those from solid loan spells at Crystal Palace and Fulham) and is a full international with three caps for Holland.

We’re not going to find many deals this month that tick several boxes from a financial and technical point of view, but the 6ft 2′ utility man can do exactly that.

This is all hypothetical and a shot in the dark, but we’d be silly not to at least try and hijack his proposed move to the Bundesliga.
