Ligue 1 star responds to NUFC rumours & confirms surprise release clause

Reims star Boulaye Dia has responded to reports linking him with a January move to Newcastle United.

Speaking after the Senegalese striker bagged two more goals over the weekend to take his Ligue 1 tally up to 12 for the season, the 24-year-old has refused to rule out a move away and confirms there is a release clause in his current contract.

This comes after The Chronicle confirmed NUFC scouts have been keeping a close eye on the striker in recent months, with him currently the joint top scorer in France alongside PSG star Kylian Mbappe for 2020/21.

Here’s what he’s had to say today when asked about our interest:

“I can leave, just as well as I can stay!

“This is just the beginning of the transfer window; the month is very long.

“I don’t think about that. I’m focused on the results of the team, on myself, to continue to perform well and to score goals.

“I feel good in Reims, it’s a good family atmosphere here.

“Otherwise, we know my situation. I have a release clause, that’s what I can tell you.”

He ticks a lot of boxes based on age, potential, recent form and his ability to play up top or out wide, however this may be something we revisit this summer if Bruce really has been restricted to nothing but loans this month.

West Ham and Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Dia, who is also believed to be attracting interest from Ligue 1 giants Lyon and Marseille.

One to watch in 2021 – however he could easily be one we miss out on this month if his release clause is a reasonable one.
