Bruce reveals new injury blow, “good news” on Saint-Maximin & hints duo could play v Arsenal

Speaking in his latest press conference today, Steve Bruce has offered a fitness update ahead of Monday night’s trip to The Emirates.

The bad news is that it looks like Federico Fernandez will miss out on our second trip to Arsenal in just over a week, with Bruce confirming the Argentine isn’t right.

That said, it looks like we’ll be boosted by the return of Jamal Lewis and Jamaal Lascelles, with the NUFC boss confirming both “could come back in” after missing out on our last few Premier League games.

There’s also some much needed ‘good news’ on Allan Saint-Maximin, with Bruce confirming he looks set to train over the coming days – although it seems he won’t be returning to first-team action for a little while yet, with him still struggling with fatigue after SEVEN weeks out with long COVID.

It’s also emerged that Paul Dummett’s withdrawal at Bramall Lane was “precautionary” and NOT due to a new injury, with Bruce also confirming that he’ll be fine for Monday.

Here’s what he’s had to say on all of the above:

“We’ve got a problem with Federico Fernández.

“Jamal Lewis could come back in. Jamaal Lascelles too.

“Jamal Lewis is back in training. He could come back in. Jamaal Lascelles too.

“Dummett going off was precautionary, rather than a strain. We expect them both to be available”

“Allan Saint-Maximin is maybe training today or tomorrow, which is good news.

“But he’s been out for around seven weeks so we’ll have to monitor him.

“Fatigue is the biggest thing.”

  1. more defenders ready to come back in so he can play a 6-4-0 formation with 10 false number 9s so anybody who scores a goal can play as a proper no9 in the next game, hope has gone with this clown in charge
