Jetro Willems on the move? – Intriguing new claims arrive from Germany…

According to reports, Jetro Willems could be on the way out of Eintracht Frankfurt in the coming days.

The former NUFC loan star is out of contract at the end of the season, and German outlet Kicker claim that he’s now in discussions to leave the Bundesliga side before the week is out.

What’s not made clear in the report is the nature of this seemingly imminent exit and where he goes next – although they do claim that he’s hopeful of a return to England after enjoying his spell on Tyneside.

The question is, is he looking for a contract settlement at Frankfurt so he’s made available on a free transfer – something that may suit us if we really do remain interested – or is he leaving because the club have agreed to sell him and has a new club lined up?

What does seem clear is that Steve Bruce wants another left-back this month, with Brandon Williams strongly linked with a loan move.

That said, it seems Man Utd may hold onto the England U-21 star, meaning we may be forced to look at alternatives – and Willems could be one of those.

He’s made it clear over the past 12 months that he’s keen to return at Newcastle and we’ve since been credited with interest, however his lack of competitive action since returning from that awful ACL injury may be a concern.

A talented player and great guy who I’d love to have back, but it would not surprise me if the club end up looking at a left-back they believe is more match fit and ready to come straight into the side.
