According to ESPN, Newcastle United have today accepted a new offer from Galatasaray over the sale of DeAndre Yedlin.
As a result, they report that the 27-year-old has now been given permission to jet out to Turkey and complete his medical ahead of a move to the Super Lig giants.
This explains why the USA defender was left out of Steve Bruce’s squad for the 0-2 win at Everton, with ESPN reporting that a deal was agreed between the two clubs today.
No fee is revealed, but it’s said the right-back will now sign a three and a half year deal with the Turkish side.
Interestingly, the same piece states that Yedlin actually preferred to remain on Tyneside, but with his contract expiring at the end of the season and no new deal on the table at present, you can see why he’s opted to move on.
For us, it now frees up a space in our 25-man squad, allowing Steve Bruce to bring in a much needed loan signing before Monday’s 11pm deadline.
Yedlin has been a solid servant for our club since Rafa Benitez signed him back in 2016. He was one of the mainstays of our Championship winning side and held down a regular berth until Javi Manquillo’s emergence as the club’s best right-back.
A solid, well-liked pro who has never complained and always given his all for Newcastle United.
All the best, DeAndre!
