Ex-NUFC star set to replace Graeme Jones at Bournemouth in next 24 hours – The Telegraph

The Telegraph are reporting that former Toon defender Jonathan Woodgate will replace Graeme Jones as first-team coach at Bournemouth on Monday.

His new role will see him work as an understudy to manager Jason Tindale and is his first job back in football since being sacked by Middlesbrough at the end of last season.

Woodgate was at Newcastle for just one season in 2003-04 but excelled during his time here – earning himself a huge move to Real Madrid just 12 months after we signed him from Leeds.

His time in Spain didn’t go to plan, and will be best remembered for one of the worst debuts of all time when he got sent off and scored an own goal against Athletic Bilbao!

Several major injuries disrupted his career but many Toon supporters still regard Woodgate as one of the best defenders to have played for our club.

As for his move to Bournemouth, it’ll be interesting to see if Matt Ritchie follows him through the door in the next 24 hours!
