Newcastle ‘agree’ shock loan deal with PSG – but player not sold on NUFC move – L’Equipe

According to reports in France on Sunday night, Newcastle have made a late loan move for PSG midfielder Idrissa Gueye.

This comes from L’Equipe, who report that we have ‘reached an agreement’ with the Ligue 1 giants over a shock loan deal, HOWEVER the player himself is not sold on a potential move to St James’ Park.

The piece claims that he is interested in a return to the Premier League 18 months on from his £25m move from Everton, but is ‘unconvinced’ about a switch to Steve Bruce’s Newcastle – something which could ‘alert’ other top flight clubs as we move into the final 24 hours of the January transfer window.

L’Equipe state that new boss Mauricio Pochettino has failed to give him first team assurances and is happy to see him leave for Tyneside – making any rejection from the players point of view a potentially tough one to take given he could have been a brilliant coup for the club and the top class CDM we’ve been crying out for.

He’s 31 now and has struggled for regular starts since making the big move to Paris, however the Senegalese spoiler was brilliant during his time in England, being one of the league’s top players for tackles and interceptions.

Some will prefer for us to steer clear of someone who doesn’t seem to fancy it, but it might be a good idea to get Allan Saint-Maximin on the phone – a fellow French speaker who will be able to speak highly of the club following his recent switch from Ligue 1!

Sadly, I can fellow Premier League clubs swooping in between now and 11pm tomorrow if he really is available on loan and hoping for a better move than Newcastle United.

We’ll see, but it’s definitely worth a try!
