Newcastle ‘interested’ in Denmark international available on loan with €4m option to buy – Report

Another day, another new name linked. This time it’s Genoa’s Lukas Lerager.

According to reports in the Denmark international’s homeland, Newcastle United have registered an interest in the midfielder over the ‘last few days’.

Danish outlet BT claim that FC Copenhagen have been trying to sign the 27-year-old on loan with an ‘option to buy for €4m’, however that same report states that we could now ‘ruin’ that proposal.

They also report that he’d prefer a move to the Premier League with Newcastle if he is to leave Serie A side. Pinch of salt needed, but if it’s true that he’s available on a loan deal that includes a cheap option to buy, it would be right up Mike Ashley’s street!

Lerager is a 6ft 2′ holding midfielder who has a goal and two assists in 19 appearances for Genoa this season, with him scoring once in 10 appearances for his country.

He’s been in Italy for almost two seasons now, having completed a £5.5m move from Bordeaux 18 months ago.

Here’s him in action during his time in France:
