Journalist names NUFC’s “most likely” deadline day signing as updates arrive on THREE targets

Deadline day is here and the Shields Gazette’s Miles Starforth claims Newcastle are ‘pushing’ to sign a midfielder – stating that Leicester’s Hamza Choudhury is the ‘most likely’ to arrive before 11pm.

That said, he also confirms that the club have been in contact with Arsenal over potential loan moves for Ainsley Maitland Niles and Joe Willock.

On the subject of that Gunners duo, The Athletic report that we are in the middle of a three-way battle for Maitland-Niles after more talks on Sunday night.

However, it could be significant (in more ways than one) that Leicester are the current favourites to land the versatile England international – a potential move that could pave the way for Choudhury’s move north to Newcastle United.

The Athletic are suggesting we’re an outside bet for Maitland-Niles, with Southampton and Leicester also in talks, yet him joining the latter could create a domino effect that allows us to land Hamza Choudhury – a player Steve Bruce confirmed his interest in on Friday and someone Brendan Rodgers has accepted will leave if a replacement arrives.

Joe Willock could be another one to watch should Maitland-Niles join Southampton and Leicester struggle to sign a midfielder, however it remains to be seen if Arsenal will let TWO of their versatile young talents leave.

On outgoings, Miles Starfoth confirms Yedlin’s seemingly imminent move to Galatasaray will free up a space in our 25-man squad – while Matt Ritchie potential return to Bournemouth could be key if we’re to bring in a SECOND loan today.
