“I’m excited” – Ex-Mag explains why Joe Willock will be the perfect signing for NUFC

Lee Clark is “excited” about the arrival of Joe Willock and believes he will “give Newcastle something different” for the rest of the season.

The Arsenal youngster signed a loan deal on deadline day and in his first interview since his arrival declared that he is a “box-to-box midfielder who can score goals”.

Now Clark, who knows a thing or two about playing in midfield for Newcastle, has spoken to back the new kid on the block.

Here is what he said to Tribal football:

“I’m excited by the arrival of Joe Willock.”

“He’s a good young player, I’ve known about him and his brothers for a long time. He’s scored a few goals in the Europa League for Arsenal.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him in the team. He gives Newcastle something completely different.

“Jonjo Shelvey got a goal against Palace, but an area we have been short in is goals from the midfield area and I’ll be looking forward to seeing if Willock can fill that void and get us goals and assist from the middle of the park.”

Most Toon fans believe that a dynamic, box-to-box midfielder who can carry the ball forward is exactly what we needed to bring in during the window.

Bruce agreed, and sweet-talked Willock into moving up North to leave a club he has been at since he was four years old, albeit temporarily.

There is congestion for places in midfield at Newcastle but hopefully that will create healthy competition, as we badly need an uplift in form if we are to keep our place in the Premier League.
