Alan Shearer has picked out THREE Newcastle United players who impressed him most in yesterday’s heroic win over Southampton at St James’ Park.
The club legend and Match of the Day star has praised the ‘brilliant’ Miguel Almrion – who not only scored twice but never stopped running – branded Joe Willock’s debut as ‘magnificent’ and has hailed the ‘outstanding’ Isaac Hayden after filling in superbly at centre-back.
Here’s what Shearer tweeted after the five-goal thriller on Tyneside, also praising the ‘ridiculous’ James Ward-Prowse for yet another stunning set-piece strike:

Almiron was for me the clear MOTM, with Willock a close second on a debut that featured everything we’d been crying out for from a box-to-box midfielder.
That said, there were several others in the side who put in one hell of a shift to help us get over the line with all three points.
Saint-Maximin played a big part in all three goals, Lewis was much improved at left-back, Darlow made a few crucial stops and Dummett didn’t put a foot wrong when brought on from the bench to protect our lead late on.
Just when we needed to show grit, character and quality at both ends after Tuesday’s disappointing and ultimately avoidable defeat to Palace, this was the perfect response.
Hats off to the players, Steve Bruce and Graeme Jones. It’s been a tough old slog this season – and there’s still a long way to go – but we’re finally seeing real signs of improvement, performances to be proud of and good footballers playing to their potential.

I would have taken a loss and the 3 players not to be injured but with everything going wrong that could go wrong the boys were fantastic. Hendrick needs his bfh though, Muppet!
