Bruce names NUFC star who’s “benefited most” since we moved to a 4312 – I wonder why…

It’s taken far too long to realise, but it seems Steve Bruce is finally reaping the rewards of playing Miguel Almiron in his correct position!

Speaking after Saturday’s 3-2 win over Southampton, the Newcastle United boss has declared that the Paraguayan is benefitting from the change of formation more than any other player.

To say he’s come alive in that No 10 role behind the front two would be an understatement, with his non-stop energy, ability to link midfield to attack, creativity, confidence in possession and final product all soaring since we changed the system to a 4-3-1-2.

Here’s what Bruce had to say about Saturday’s man of the match:

“Over the last few weeks with the change of formation and system – the one person who has benefited the most is Almirón.

“He’s been terrific and he’s added some goals to it.

“He’s a great pro, a joy to work with and he’s playing very well at the minute.”

He really has been a joy to watch. He was caused havoc at Everton, was our best player against Palace and delivered a tireless 10/10 display against the Saints.

Bruce has also been singing the praises of Joe Willock following his all action display on Saturday, believing he’s immediately added ‘something different’ and a goal threat to a previously stale midfield:

“I’m delighted with his debut.

“I said he would give us something different and he arrives late in the box to get his goal.

“A very good debut.”

It’s early days for Willock, but his drive and box-to-box style combined with Almiron’s endless energy and ingenuity has brought a totally new dimension to this side.

Long may it last!
