Billionaire talks up takeover plans after NUFC interest – A Saudi alternative we must avoid?

Joseph DaGrosa has been speaking again recently about his hopes to buy a Premier League club. The American investor was heavily linked to purchasing Southampton recently but differences in valuation seem to have ensured that this isn’t going to happen.

DaGrosa has been heavily linked to buying Newcastle in the past – he confirmed he’d been in talks with Mike Ashley last year – and, with the club still on the market, it wouldn’t be too surprising to think that we may be a club on his radar. In fact, The Athletic recently stated that we were one of THREE Premier League clubs on his radar now the Saints deal has all but died a death.

DaGrosa has claimed that he is “very confident we are going to get an acquisition done fairly soon” and has reiterated that he and his investment group have the financial strength needed:

“I would say we’ve got very strong financial support and for the target size of clubs we are looking at we are very comfortable that we have the capital we need to get the acquisitions done and to adequately capitalise them post closure.”

Though these words from DaGrosa are intriguing and potentially hint at an existence away from Mike Ashley but, if fans from Bordeaux are to be believed, then we may be a case of better the devil you know.

When our first article was published about DaGrosa, a number of Bordeaux fans tweeted us to warn us away from any hope that this man would be good for the club.

Here are some of the replies from them:

  • @liliflav: Guys, have a look at what this man and his friend have done at Bordeaux. Basically they took the money and ran. Only high priced hôtels, clubs and restaurants will benefit from them along with their bank account and their football agent friends.
  • @koalight: Don’t let him destroy NUFC. He is going send you to Championship
  • @bochacamickael: He has no money. Check what he did with Bordeaux. Crook
  • @barth33: Dagrosa is a thief.. Be very careful!

As much as I hate Mike Ashley and the way he has ruined our club, it seems like DaGrosa would simply be nailing in more nails in to our already well nailed coffin.

Let’s hope that Ashley’s history of knocking back potential-buyers continues with this fellow because I don’t want to know what life is like where football life is worse than watching Bruceball.

  1. He can’t afford it…..
    He can’t afford £200m for Southampton neither…
Mike Ashley said “he’s a time waster”
Bloke just likes seeing his name in the press, and you lot in the media seem happy to keep stroking his ego…..

  2. Come on mate – read what you’re writing.
“I would say we’ve got very strong financial support ….for the target size of clubs we are looking at we are very comfortable that we have the capital we need…. ”

This is a clear statement that they are aiming at the lower end of the market and not at the Toon, which has to be one of the most expensive clubs currently on the market.

  3. Definitely not needed at NUFC not any American investors. Every club with American investors has massive supporter unrest.
