Mike Ashley puts takeover talks on hold after double blow is announced – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, Mike Ashley has put all takeover talks on hold in the aftermath of our recent injury crisis – claiming the club is effectively off the market until our Premier League status is decided.

This comes after the club confirmed this morning that Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin have been ruled out until April after picking up injuries against Wolves.

As a result, The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards has been told that all takeover conversations have been halted by Ashley’s main advisor Justin Barnes until our uncertain relegation battle reaches a conclusion – hardly surprising news to say the least.

Here’s what he tweeted in the last few moments:

This double whammy is a huge blow to us Toon fans, who must now prepare for a turbulent and nerve-wracking end to the season with so much more than our top flight status on the line.

News of relegation affecting the takeover should not be a shock to anyone, but if the worst were to happen, there would be huge question marks as to what Mike Ashley’s next move would be.

Three relegations in 14 years would be catastrophic but the value of our club would be slashed in half overnight. Most supporters feel highly sceptical that Ashley would even consider selling us while we sat in the graveyard of the Championship.

  1. Taking this into account = we NEED a MANAGER brought in ASAP to get the best out of the players we have!!!

The clown Bruce has had Almiron either on the bench or out of position for most of the past 2 years (!?)

The guy simply isn’t a MANAGER = time for Ashley to save losing hundreds of millions and get a MANAGER

  2. Ashley didn’t stop the talks the Saudis did they will only buy a team in the premiership Ashley realises that he has employed someone who can’t keep to the mandate and now is starting to flap

  3. Every now and then an article pops up that makes it look like Ashley is in control when we all know he’s not got a clue how to run a football club. More over dramatised *****, we know the takeover was never going through anytime soon until Miss Piggy turns green so why a big announcement. Keeps journalists in work I suppose.

  4. its hardly as if Bruce is needed for the takeover talks, and I wouldn’t have thought Justin Barnes has much impact on the training ground as for chumplye, never mind put the kettle on Penfold

  7. What’s wrong Mr Ashley now are u a tad worried that we might end up a championship team. How is it the fans have been saying for months we are seriously heading down. Yet you wernt bothered, think the compensation you should of payed Bruce is now gonna end up being nothing. As your gonna end up losing at least 100 million once we are a championship team. Well done good business sense yet again.

  8. Our league position could have been prevented if Ashley gave the money he needed to buy players in the January transfer window. If we get relegated he will not sell up. He will have to if we force him out.
