Newcastle loan star involved in horror show as two awful errors end in 3-1 defeat – Video

Freddie Woodman’s latest loan spell at Swansea has generally been a huge success, however it’s fair to say the 23-year-old has just had a weekend to forget in Wales.

In a home clash with Nigel Pearson’s Bristol City, the young goalkeeper not only conceded from a corner after failing to command his box, but then gifted the Robins a third after Antoine Semenyo caught the Newcastle loanee dithering on the ball.

It must be said that Woodman has kept an outstanding 17 clean sheets this season, helping Swansea become the meanest defence in the Championship, yet he’s come under some intense scrutiny over the past few days following his horror show on Saturday.

Watch both errors below:

His shot-stopping ability has rarely been in question, however it was noticeable the odd time we saw him start in the cups that he lacked authority in his own six-yard box and had a few heart in mouth moments when attempting to play out from the back.

It’s perhaps quite telling that Bristol City’s Kasey Palmer admitted after the game that they targeted Woodman from corners, however Swansea boss Steve Cooper has jumped to his defence after an otherwise “brilliant” season for the Swans:

“Listen, Freddie’s made a couple of mistakes for the second and third goals, we know that, but he’s been brilliant for us since he’s come through the door.”
