Moment of magic from Elliot Anderson proves he’s ready to play a part in relegation battle – Video

Elliot Anderson has reminded Steve Bruce that he’s more than ready to step up to senior level after starring in Monday’s Tyne and Wear derby for the U-23’s.

Sunderland led after nine minutes, but we managed to claw it back just moments later when Adam Wilson rounded off a move that began with a superb driving run from Anderson – seeing him shrug off his man, burst into space and pick his head up to play a lovely outside of the foot pass into the final third.

The Scotland U17 international made his professional debut against Arsenal in January, but hasn’t been included in our matchday squads of late – despite the club rejecting a recent loan offer from Luton.

With big injuries to Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin, this footage seems like more proof that he’s ready to make the step up and feature in Friday night’s squad at the very least.

Take a look for yourselves here:

Another player who featured in the derby was Matty Longstaff, a midfielder who has been completely frozen out from the first-team picture in recent times.

Some wonder whether the minutes gained in yesterday’s game could be a sign that Bruce is thinking about introducing the pair back into the fold for Friday night’s huge clash with Aston Villa.

With Almiron injured and Hendrick doing nothing to impress once again, it wouldn’t be the worst idea to give both a shot on Friday night!
