NUFC’s hidden gem nominated for Player of the Month award during superb loan spell – Vote here

Kelland Watts isn’t talked about all that often, but his progress over the past few years has been quietly impressive.

After being called up to our matchday squad by Rafa Benitez at the end of 2018/19 and shining during a League Two loan spell with Stevenage last season, the 6ft 4′ centre-back made his Premier League debut against Liverpool on the final day of 2019/20.

The Alnwick-born defender then secured a loan move to League One side Plymouth last summer – and to say he’s been a hit on the south coast would be an understatement.

Search his name on social media and Argyle fans only have good things to say about the 21-year-old, praising his ability to play out from the ball, aerial prowess and reading of the game.

As a result, he’s today been nominated for PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award for February, with his performances for Plymouth featuring three clean sheets, three wins and a goal last month (Vote for him here).

With a few of our current CB’s out of contract this summer and many of the current crop either in or around their 30’s, Watts could be one to watch and a future first-team star, with a Championship loan move likely to be the next step.
