Steve Bruce has revealed that Miguel Almiron is “going along very, very nicely” and has an outside chance of featuring against Brighton next weekend – providing he comes through training this week.
Almiron picked up an injury in the 1-1 draw to Wolves last month, which many believed would see him out for longer than a few weeks.
Thankfully, it looks like he isn’t too far away from fitness – despite initially being ruled out until April – which would be a welcome boost for our struggling squad – even if both Wilson and Saint-Maximin have already been ruled out of our relegation six pointer at The Amex.
Unfortunately it will be too soon for Callum Wilson according to Bruce, with he and Allan Saint-Maximin tipped to return to the squad after the international break.
Here’s what Bruce had to say when speaking to the BBC about Wilson and Almiron’s fitness:
“We will see how they progress of course.
“It’s going to be a little too early for Callum, we can already dismiss that.
“Miggy is a different option.
“He is going along very, very nicely so we’ll keep our fingers crossed.”
Miggy has been a huge miss in the false 9 role, occupied by Fraser then Gayle last night, with him a key cog in the 4-3-1-2 formation that’s been used following Graeme Jones’ arrival.
A return for Almiron, Wilson and Saint-Maximin in the near future will hopefully give us the individual quality we need in this relegation battle.
As Bruce sats, we’ll all be keeping our fingers crossed that our all action Paraguayan and player of 2021 is fit to return next weekend.
Bruce simply ISN’T a MANAGER
Could have Messi and the clown would play him in defence – time to bring someone that can get the best out of the available players
Time for MD Charmless and NUFC board to resign

Our players must prepare for 10 hard fought games ,Bruce wont contribute much so captain will have to work the team as one ,we will not just cave in we are NEWCASTLE UNITED
