Newcastle United have confirmed that Callum Wilson is back in light training, releasing images of our top scorer back in action at the Benton base.
The player himself has also offered an update on his fitness, telling NUFC TV that he has a ‘game in mind’ regarding his return to action.
Wilson suffered a hamstring tear in our 3-2 win over Southampton last month and has already been ruled out Saturday’s trip to Brighton by Steve Bruce, however his return date may well be our clash with Spurs on April 4th.
Here’s clips of him back on the grass today, along with his interview with the club’s media channel:
“I have got a game in mind that I’m aiming to get back for and that’s my motivation.”
“You have to have something to set your mind on.
“Obviously I won’t reveal that as we’re making sure it’s all controlled and everything goes well.
“it’s going to be nice once I get back, no one likes to be injured…especially now the sunshine is out!
“It’s a little bit frustrating but all you can be is positive.
“Sooner or later I’ll be amongst it as well.”
It would be nice to have him back for the Spurs game, but it’s vital not to rush him back to action – especially when a winnable trip to Burnley is set to come after our clash with Mourinho’s men.
Either way, it’s good to see him edging closer, with it absolutely essential we get him, Almiron and ASM fit and firing in the next few weeks.

I’d even keep him rested against spurs, no use in risking him in a game we’re gonna sit back and defend for the majority of it, keep him wrapped up for the games that we could possibly get a result
