NUFC ‘ready’ to cash in on contract clause to re-sign former Mag…whether we stay up or not – Report

According to reports, Newcastle are lining up a move for ex-Mag Adam Armstrong – no matter what league we find ourselves in this summer.

This comes via an exclusive from TEAMTalk, who report that we are ‘ready to push ahead with a deal’ for the local lad who’s proven to be one of the Championships most prolific strikers in recent seasons – bagging 37 goals for Blackburn over the past 18 months.

The piece also highlights the ‘huge advantage’ we could have over rival suitors West Ham and Southampton, with a 40% sell-on clause inserted into his 2018 sale allowing us to re-sign him at significantly cut-price fee.

Saying that, this advantage may not mean a great deal if we are relegated and he prefers a move to the top flight instead!

TEAMTalk also claim that Blackburn are looking for a fee in the region of £16m for the 24-year-old – meaning we could end up paying less than £10m for the striker once our sell-on clause is applied.

A dubious source, making this one to take with a pinch of salt for now, however he has been linked with a return to Tyneside over the past year and could well jump at the chance to rejoin his boyhood club.

One to watch this summer?

  1. I’d take him back in a heartbeat – we should never have sold him … or Toney for that matter.

  2. Should’nt have let him go in the first place, this is typical of the manager’s Newcastle employ. We need someone with the ability and skill to bring youth on, we sell on good players who become excellent players, think on Ashley.
