Update arrives on freak injury suffered by Isaac Hayden in Saturday’s horror show at Brighton

According to The Athletic, Isaac Hayden looks set to sit out the remainder of our season – denting our dim survival hopes even further.

The midfielder was stretchered off midway through Saturday night’s abysmal display at Brighton, with the nature of his nasty injury incredibly unfortunate.

It came about after Yves Bissouma lost his balance following a collision with Jonjo Shelvey, allowing the Brighton midfielder to fall awkwardly onto Isaac Hayden’s knee.

The Athletic state that official confirmation is yet to arrive from the club following a series of scans, however it’s their understanding he won’t play again this season after ‘increasing fears’ over the severity of his injury.

Although the full extent has not been disclosed, any serious ACL injury could see him sidelined for six months plus – which explains why fears emerged on Sunday that he could even be missing for the start of next season.

Almiron may be fit again and we will be boosted by the return of Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin at some stage next month, but to be without our only real tackler and workhorse for the remainder of this relegation battle would be a huge blow.
