NUST release new statement on Steve Bruce in most candid intervention yet – “Enough is enough”

The Newcastle United Supporters Trust have ramped up the pressure on Steve Bruce in a brutally honest statement on his untenable position at the club.

After refraining from calling out the manager up until this point, they confirm they have now approached the club to express their views on his future – believing he must be sacked if we’re to avoid a third relegation under Mike Ashley’s ownership.

They insist that the ‘overwhelming feeling’ amongst the fanbase is that he has to go, saying ‘enough is enough’.

Here’s what Chair Greg Tomlinson has had to say in a NUST statement:

NUST on Steve Bruce’s position at the club:

“It’s clear from the feedback that we have had from our members that the overwhelming feeling is that the manager needs to go. Enough is enough.

“We have refrained from calling for the manager to go to this point. We said in January something needs to change – that could have been bringing players in in January.

“We were told the club could not afford that due to the pandemic, which is obviously something that other clubs have communicated as well. But it’s clear the way the way things are going we are heading for relegation.

“We have approached the club and represented our members views that the manager must go because we feel we’re hurtling towards relegation.

“Obviously they know there’s a lot of emotion around the situation at the moment but we felt we needed to speak on behalf of our members so we represented that to the club and were told those views relayed to the very top of the club.”

NUST on Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Brighton:

“That performance on Saturday was as bad as it gets. To go to Brighton, who have won one home game and effectively stand off them like they were Barcelona was just unacceptable.

“Some of the players aren’t playing for him, that’s clear.

“We speak as a Fans Trust. The strange thing for me is he talks about being a Newcastle United fan and wanting the best for the club but if that was the case he’d take stock of the situation and stand down because it’s clear that it is not working and the consequences for Newcastle of relegation are really profound.”

NUST on the ‘antagonistic’ messages sent out by Steve Bruce:

“One of the sad things is the total breakdown between supporters and the manager over the course of this season,”

“We feel he has been antagonistic towards supporters in the way he has spoken about them, talking about ‘mass hysteria’ and ‘keyboard warriors’.

“At no point has he tried to endear himself to fans by talking convincingly about the potential of the club, what it can be, how we can move it forward. Instead it has been a constant drip feed of talking down our club. Even after Brighton, the things he said weren’t representative of a manager who believes in the potential of our football club.

“There’s no other option now: his presence is not helping the club.”

  1. in the eyes of the media unfortunately we are in a almost no win situation

Bruce go’s and we are relegated = Media claim No one could have saved our season
Bruce stays and we are relegated = Media clam he did best he could with squad and fans against him
Bruce stays and we stay up = media claim we should have had faith in him all along
Bruce Go’s and we stay up = media claim that if squad had showed same enthusiasm / effort under Bruce would have stayed up with him

  2. When will these loons with the likes of NUST etc actually figure out that they have no sway at all with Ashley?
