Video: Aleksandar Mitrovic scores incredible goal to beat Newcastle duo in World Cup qualifier

Ex-Mag Aleksandar Mitrovic may have had a very quiet season in the Premier League, but he scored the goal of his career last night.

In Serbia’s World Cup qualifier clash with the Republic of Ireland – featuring Newcastle duo Ciaran Clark and Jeff Hendrick – the big man pulled off a stunning chip to hand the home side a 2-1 lead.

Mitrovic then got on the scoresheet again just seven minutes later, with the game ending 3-2 to Serbia.

Watch the Serbian’s incredible finish for yourself below:

Ciaran Clark played 79 minutes for the Republic of Ireland, while Jeff Hendrick played the final half an hour after starting on the bench.

Mitrovic’s double means he is now the joint all-time top goalscorer for Serbia on 38 goals – an impressive feat given he’s still just 26.

Let’s hope this is a one-off for Mitrovic and not a sign he’s ready to force his way back into Scott Parker’s side and fire them to safety at our expense!
