Alan Shearer makes big Joelinton claim as he picks out NUFC duo for praise after Spurs draw

Alan Shearer believes Joelinton had his best game for the club in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Spurs at St James’ Park.

The former No. 9 also applauded Joe Willock for his point-saving cameo that saw him score late on, with his goal earning us what could prove to be a crucial point in the relegation battle.

As for Joelinton, the Brazilian deserves credit for what was a much improved display, having scored one, helped set up the other and causing the Spurs defence problems with some clever movement and physicality.

Here’s what Shearer had to say when tweeting after the game:

His display still featured a few tame efforts that he could and should have done better with, however he played a key role in both goals – his header across goal was vital for our equaliser – and gave us an outlet in attack throughout.

The question is, will he keep his place in the side when Wilson’s fully fit again?

Either way, it’s good to see our Brazilian put in the sort of all action display that must now become the norm if he’s to help repay that huge £40m price tag between and the end of the season.

  1. Joelinton a better performance but still looks soft to me, frightened he will get hurt!
Gayle better movement but doesn’t look sharp.
Good fighting spirit from Ritchie, Murphy, Longstaff and the tireless Almiron.
    Krafth not good enough again!

  2. Olly: you know Bruce. It will be a straight swap of Wilson for Gayle.

I thought Longstaff did OK. Must be rusty after like 14 mins in 2 months. But at least he kept Hendrick out.

I was looking forward to seeing Fraser have a bit of a run but I reckon that is done. His problem is his groin which usually means a month out. It did with St Max anyway.
