New injury updates arrive on NUFC duo Callum Wilson & Fabian Schar

A crucial month for Newcastle’s survival hopes could be boosted by the returns of two key players – Callum Wilson and Fabian Schar.

Wilson and Schar were both taken off in the win against Southampton 2 months ago but it seems like they are both on the road to recovery.

Wilson is way ahead of Schar in his return date – as he looks to be back within the squad for this weekends fixture, away to Burnley.

Bruce said this on Wilson, “He starts training this week. Big week. Big week ahead. So let’s see, but muscle injuries, you’ve just seen Allan (Saint-Maximin) there. We’ve got to box careful. It’s good to see him around the training ground, I’ve got to say, but I’ll see how he is.”

However for Schar, it looks like he is trying to be fit before the end of the season but is still doubtful.

Schar spoke to NUFC’s Zoom Army feature and said, “I’m quite happy with where I am after seven weeks since my surgery.

“The last five or six weeks I was working hard in Switzerland. The only aim I had was to do as many hours for the rehab as possible. I think I am on the right way. Still, there is a bit to do and it’s going to be tight for some games this season.

“It’s my aim to help the team at the end of the season and I will do everything to try and do that but I can’t exactly say if it is possible or not.”

The Switzerland international, who is out of contract in the summer, has a clause in his contract to extend for another year at the club and is said to have been targeting a return for the European Championships in June.
