Alan Shearer backs supporter-led bid to buy stake in Newcastle United under new owners

Alan Shearer has gone public in his backing of the 1892 pledge – the ambitious Newcastle United Supporters Trust project bidding to buy a stake in the club via the help of supporters.

The long-term project has today asked fans to give what they can to the fund – whether it be a one off donation or a monthly payment – believing enough pledges will enable us, the supporters, to own a 1% stake in OUR club when Mike Ashley eventually sells up to new owners.

In reaction to the NUST’s announcement video (which you can watch in full below), the former Newcastle United No. 9 praised the idea and confirmed it has his support, declaring “Well done. I’m in.”

See Shearer’s tweet and the 1892 pledge’s promotional video below:

Although it is brilliant to have Shearer on board, this project will live and die on the backing it receives from your everyday Newcastle fan both up and down the country and across the globe.

I am proud to say I have signed up to a monthly donation, believing this is not only a brilliant idea to rally behind, but also our chance to safeguard the future of our club and have a genuine voice when new owners replace Mike Ashley.

You can join the 1892 pledge HERE, with donations already over £7,000 just a few hours in.

If it’s good enough for Alan Shearer, it’s good enough for me!
