Pundit makes shock Joelinton claim after naming Brazilian “under-appreciated player of the week”

Many of the players who featured on Sunday against Spurs put in a performance which fans have been screaming out for a long time – including a man of the match performance from Joelinton.

The Brazilian forward scored the opening goal for the Magpies and also headed the ball back across to Almiron for Willock’s equaliser in the last 10 minutes.

A lot of the media have recently slated Joelinton’s performances, however NBC pundit Robbie Earle has heaped praise on the Brazilian, naming him his “under-appreciated player of the week” and even suggesting Mourinho could do worse than to sign him for Spurs this summer!

Here’s what he’s had to say:

“My under-appreciated player of the week is Joelinton.

Ridiculed since his move, not really been a prolific goalscorer but in difficult times he has played in positions that aren’t his best but I look around the division and I don’t see players playing for the team with the same effort.

“He came up with important goals against Spurs and made a nuisance of himself. It is easy as a player to get caught up in that but they played with spirit, a bit of drive and let’s give a bit of love to Joelinton and Steve Bruce.”

“You know what, Jose Mourinho could do worse than buying Joelinton for his Tottenham team.”

I can almost guarantee Joelinton will NOT be on Mourinho’s summer transfer list at Spurs but it is good to see his work at the weekend has been appreciated by many media outlets, with Earle following Alan Shearer and Lee Ryder in his praise for the former Hoffenheim man.

Joelinton has a long way to go before he justifies even a fraction on the £40m the club spent on him, however every Toon fan will be hoping he kicks on in these next eight huge games and gains confidence from last weekends performance.
