Fan favourite Allan Saint-Maximin has endeared himself even more to the NUFC faithful after donating more than 60 care packages to NHS staff – the people he described as “the real heroes of my city.”
Our French talisman has been inspired by the hard work of our frontline staff during the pandemic and took it upon himself to reward them for their efforts.
A selection of gifts included luxury French confectionery sets, vouchers for high-end high street shops and a message from himself thanking them for their helpless work throughout the crisis.
The news broke via NUFC’s official website, with the piece also mentioning how Saint-Maximin paid a visit to the West End Food Bank to learn more about the centre and the work that goes on there to help some of the most vulnerable families in the city.
Here is what he told our club’s media team:
“We are in an incredibly fortunate situation as footballers as we know we are very privileged.
“The work the NHS staff and key workers at places like food banks have been doing here is inspirational and it makes you want to help as much as possible.
“I would like to thank everyone for all of their amazing work and to celebrate the real heroes of my city.
“These guys are all incredible and they are doing a wonderful job.”
All us Geordies ask for from a Toon player is for them to give 100% and endear themselves to the city, and in return, we will back you every step of the way.
That is something that Saint-Maximin has done in abundance since his arrival 18 months ago.
It’s not just his flair on the pitch that has made him a hit with the fans, it’s his cheeky antics on social media and all round feel good factor that has radiated from the winger since the moment he moved to Tyneside.
Taking time out of his day and forking out a small expense is harmless and didn’t have to be done, but that memory will stay with those NHS staff for the rest of their lives and at the very least will put a big smile on their face.
Allan Saint-Maximin…an absolute star, both on and off the field!
