Photo emerges of ‘ball-playing’ defender currently on trial at Newcastle United

Newcastle have handed a trial to Everton youngster Dylan Thompson, according to The Chronicle.

Everton describe him as an “assured, ball playing” centre-back – playing six times for the U18’s and once for the U23’s, but the 18-year-old is reportedly looking for a new club.

Thompson has been on the books of Everton since the age of 12 but has previously played for Manchester United and Blackpool.

Newcastle’s youth teams have struggled a lot recently – especially the U23 side, who sit second bottom of PL2 Division 2.

In the 4-0 defeat to Wolves on Monday, many fans were wondering who the unnamed ‘Trialist’ was starting the game in the number 6 shirt.

Since then, it has been confirmed that the player was in fact Thompson and it looks like Newcastle are lining themselves up for a potential move.

The club have already signed Matthew Bondswell from RB Leipzig this season to join up with the U23 squad and are seemingly looking for additions with several players expected to leave the club, the report claims.

There was also confirmation from NUFC that Academy manager Joe Joyce has left the club and Steve Harper will take on the role until the end of the season, in June.
