Eddie Howe theory emerges as talkSPORT pundit has his say on latest Newcastle rumours

TalkSPORT pundit Danny Mills believes Eddie Howe could be playing the waiting game so he can seize an opportunity at Newcastle United.

The ex-Bournemouth boss has been out of work since last season when he left his post at The Cherries following their relegation to the Championship.

Sky Sports reported last week that Scottish giants Celtic had made an approach for his services but are yet to receive a response, with Howe still weighing up his options.

Former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie has also claimed earlier this week that Howe is set for talks with Newcastle after stalling on Celtic’s offer – reigniting talk of a possible interest switch to St James’ Park.

Now, Mills has told Football Insider that he could me waiting to see what happens on Tyneside amid the uncertainty regarding Steve Bruce’s future at our club:

“He may be just waiting to see what other jobs he gets offered.

“He might be thinking ‘If Newcastle stay up, does the Newcastle job become available? Is that on offer?’

“That’s a big club, new owners potentially and a big budget.

“Only Eddie Howe will know what he wants to do next, unfortunately.”

Howe remains a popular choice with our fanbase and has regularly topped fan polls asking who we would like to bring in should Ashley decide to pull the trigger on Bruce.

Both Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson are former Howe players and Toon fans believe he could implement a positive brand of football, something we have not seen for years at St James’ Park.

A move to bring Howe to the North East would be welcomed by our fanbase and could give us a refreshingly positive outlook ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Sticking with Bruce – no matter what division we are in – would only create a toxic atmosphere inside the ground once fans are allowed back in.

Appointing a forward-thinking manager and backing him would show a slither of the ambition we have been asking for as supporters for the past 14 years.

  1. Eddie Howe has been the obvious choice all season, had they paid bruce his compo I’m sure howe would have increased our league position which would easily have covered the compo

  2. Aye – I can just imagine the Saudis taking over, sitting with billions in the bank and thinking “Eddie Howe – he’s the man for us!”

  3. If we get Howe we are probably stuck with Ashley. Can’t see richer owners wanting him. Seems a nice young fella who talks well to the press and plays fairly attractive football. But did take a fairly good side down after the players pretty much dropped tools. Not that convinced but way better than the cabbage.
