THREE clubs now eyeing cut-price deal for Jacob Murphy & new contract claims made – Report

According to Football Insider, Jacob Murphy has received interest from Southampton, Watford and Rangers.

They report that the winger actually has another 12 months on his deal – suggesting he is NOT out of contract this summer – but claim he could leave for as little as £3m if he fails to sign an extension at St James’ Park.

Rangers have been credited with an interest in the winger over the last few transfer windows, however Football Insider’s latest ‘exclusive’ claims Southampton and promotion chasing Watford have also been impressed by his recent form and made aware of his potential availability on a cut-price deal.

Personally, I am quite confident he’ll be offered a new deal in the coming months and put any talk of a potential exit to bed and would file these latest claims in the ‘dubious’ department.

I’m sure he has received some interest following a host of eye-catching displays both this season and during his impressive loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday last year, however he’s finally living his dream at his boyhood club, getting game time and in Bruce’s good books.

If we are offering a 31-year-old, injury prone Dwight Gayle a new three-year contract, there is now way we allow Jacob Murphy to leave for as little as £3m this summer.

I also believe he’d jump at the chance to commit his long-term future to Newcastle United, with him enjoying his best run in the side since he made a £10m move from Norwich.
