Newcastle set to complete the signing of Shaun Mavididi – Report

Football Insider claim Newcastle are closing in on the signing of former Arsenal youngster Shaun Mavididi.

The teenager was released by Arsenal earlier in the year and is believed to have recently landed a trial on Tyneside.

Mavididi featured in a game for Newcastle U18’s back in February, and it looks as if the management team have been impressed by his performances.

In the report, Football Insider claim Newcastle have offered a two-year scholarship program – then converted into a one-year professional contract.

He is set to join up with the U18 squad if he accepts the offer put to him, with him wanting to make an impression and progress through the academy set up.

Newcastle have been active in their recruitment for youngsters recently – Dylan Thompson is also on trial with the U23’s from Everton.

Mavididi’s brother, Stephy, is also making a big impact at a young age. Capped by England U20’s, he signed for Juventus for around £1.3m from Arsenal, in 2018. The 22 year-old has since joined Ligue 1 outfit Montpellier – scoring nine goals in 29 appearances this season.

Newcastle will be hoping he follows in his brothers potential and is capable of producing goals for the first team, in years to come.
