Club set to make £6m bid for ‘frustrated’ Newcastle player – Report

Watford are preparing a £6m bid for Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow, according to The Mirror.

They report that they are eyeing a long-term replacement for 38-year-old Ben Foster and have the Newcastle United No.2 in their sights.

The Hornets are currently on track to earn automatic promotion back to the Premier League, currently six points clear of third place Swansea with four games of the Championship season remaining.

The Mirror believe we might be tempted to cash in on the 30-year-old given Freddie Woodman is in our long-term plans following another impressive loan spell at Swansea, with his return set to leave us with FOUR senior goalkeepers on our books.

Darlow has more than played his part this season, stepping in for Dubravka admirably, however The Athletic have reported recently that he’s ‘frustrated’ to have fallen out of Steve Bruce’s starting 11 now the Slovakian is fit again.

He’s a brilliant back-up option to have, but it’s fair to say he won’t want to settle for that any longer after proving himself at Premier League level when called upon.

I can see him considering his future this summer and us selling while his stock is high – whether Watford’s ‘interest’ comes to anything or not.
