According to Football Insider, Joe Willock has told teammates that he wants to seal a permanent move to St James’ Park this summer.
Their ‘exclusive’ states that the 21-year-old is loving life on Tyneside and fears he will not get the opportunity to play regular Premier League football should he remain at the Emirates next season.
That said, Football Insider report that his potential asking price could be a problem, with Bruce expected to be working with a limited budget and Arsenal likely to demand a ‘substantial fee’.
However, it’s said they could be willing to sanction his exit if they opt to sign Martin Odegaard once his loan move from Real Madrid expires.
Our spending – providing Mike Ashley fails to sell up – could be restricted this summer, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up pursuing another loan deal with a potential obligation to buy at the end of the 2021/22 season? After all, an England U-21 international with real potential is surely going to cost around £20m in this day and age?
Either way, it would be brilliant to have the energetic midfielder back at the club next season.
He’s given us that box-to-box option we’ve so often lacked and carries a goal threat too – having scored three crucial goals via a series of well timed runs since arriving on Tyneside earlier this year.
